Tax investigations, penalty appeals, AML compliance and other civil matters.

An area we are particularly known for. If HMRC has written, an AML question is keeping you up at night, or a civil dispute is heading in the wrong direction, this is where we can help most.
WHAT IS INCLUDED

What we draft and review.

This service area sits at the intersection of legal, financial and regulatory work, which is exactly where the Lexarox Group lives. The most common matters:
  • HMRC self assessment penalty appeals (late filing, late payment, reasonable excuse)
  • HMRC VAT enquiries, assessments and disputes
  • PAYE and CIS investigations
  • Corporation tax enquiries and assessments
  • Status determinations (IR35, employment status)
  • Tax tribunal preparation (first-tier) with regulated barrister for hearings
  • Anti-Money Laundering (AML) compliance: policies, risk assessments, training, suspicious activity reporting
  • AML supervision questions for accountants, estate agents, high-value dealers and other obliged entities
  • Civil disputes: contract, debt recovery, consumer, professional negligence, civil claims under £50,000
  • Pre-action protocol correspondence
  • Statutory demands, county court claims and defending county court claims
  • And other civil and regulatory matters on request
WHO THIS IS FOR

Who this is for.

  • Individuals and businesses who have received an HMRC penalty, an assessment, or an enquiry letter and want it handled properly.
  • Limited companies under AML obligations who want their compliance reviewed, refreshed or built from scratch.
  • Businesses or individuals dealing with a civil claim - either making one or defending one - and want to resolve it without the cost of full litigation.
  • Other professional firms (accountants, estate agents, high-value dealers) who want qualified AML guidance.
HOW IT WORKS

Our process.

01
Free 20-Minute Consultation
Tell us what is going on. For tax matters, bring any HMRC correspondence. For AML, tell us your sector and what compliance you have in place today.
02
Written scope and fixed quote
We agree what we will do in writing, with a fixed fee, before any work begins.
03
Action
We draft, advise, correspond on your behalf, and prepare any submissions or appeals. For tribunal hearings, we partner with a regulated barrister.
04
Resolution and follow-through
We see the matter through to a defined endpoint (penalty cancelled, AML policy approved, civil claim settled), and we tell you clearly when it is finished.
COMMON QUESTIONS

FAQs

Very strong, particularly on self assessment late-filing and late-payment penalties where there is a reasonable excuse, and on more complex enquiry-based appeals. We do not publish individual outcomes for client confidentiality reasons, but we will be honest with you on the free 20-minute call about whether your appeal has good prospects.

If you already have one (your accountant, for example), we work alongside them - no need to duplicate. If you do not, our sister firm Lexarox Accounts handles tax preparation directly.

AML straddles legal, regulatory and practical compliance. The policies need to be legally sound; the training needs to be done; the supervisor needs to be satisfied. We handle the full picture so you do not have to coordinate three different specialists.

We can handle the pre-action and out-of-court phases of larger claims, and for the litigation phase we partner with regulated solicitors and barristers from our network. The free 20-minute call will tell you what we can do directly and where we would bring others in.
